Should You Blog ? Here Are 3 Things to Consider

Starting a blog is free. It can be too easy that you don't think about the risks honest before you do so. Don't waste your time on something that you can't possibly grow or profit from. Here are 3 simple things to believe if you want to start a money making blog.

1. Your passion

Are you obsessive about the topic you are going to blog? You should at least have some interests in the topic. Starting a blog to make money is just like other venture, you will find firm times.

What makes you go on is passion. Your passion will also get into everything that you do. If you are not paying attention in the topic, even the two hours per day you use up on the work seem like forever. You will do half-hearted job and the addressees will notice.

Passion will force you to take the extra mile. You will create better content and serve your audience better. Believe me, it makes a distinction in this world where everything is the same old same old.

2. Your knowledge

Do you have enough knowledge to write about the topic. Don't worry if you don't, as long as you are obsessive with the topic, you can always learn the topic in one week and without delay become expert in the topic, at least more than 90 percent of the people in the market.

Of course, you need to keep growing. If you are serious about it, go to the bookstore or Amazon and buy some books. You can also download ebooks and immerse yourself in the information.

3. Your resources

Do you have the time to do this? Blogging requires that you spend some time regularly, preferably daily, to produce and post content. If you don't have that kind of obligation, or if you are too busy with other projects, you should not overwhelm your timetable by starting a blog.

Hiring others to blog can be an option, but remember that the blogger represent yourself or your business. That may not be what you want if you are blogging about your business.

If you start a blog as an independent publishing endeavor, you want to make sure they are able to produce quality content and convey personality. Content in itself will not get you audience. Being valid and interesting is important.

And last, but not least, is that you need to be constant and dependable with your effort. As long as you move forward in the right direction, no matter how slow it is, you will reach the destination if you are persistent.

Google launches new algorithm

Google will begin showing multiple results from the same domain in search engine listings, it has been announced. The news, which was revealed in an official Google blog, is said to have been introduced in order to help users find more relevant information through searches.

Writing on the official Google site, software engineer Samarth Keshava wrote:

Google Launches New Algorithm

"Today we’ve launched a change to our ranking algorithm that will make it much easier for users to find a large number of results from a single site. For queries that indicate a strong user interest in a particular domain, we’ll now show more results from the relevant site.

"We’re always reassessing our ranking and user interface, making hundreds of changes each year. We expect today’s improvement will help users find deeper results from a single site, while still providing diversity on the results page."

The news of the algorithm change comes as Rob Ousbey, a search engine optimisation expert, discovered the search engine was also testing live updating search results. Writing on his own personal SEO blog, Rob commented:

"Earlier today, I noticed that my Google results were centered in the middle of the page. This evening, I spotted that you don't even need to hit the 'Search' button anymore - Google updates the results for you while you're typing."

At present, the feature is still in a testing page, so it is unknown if the search engine is set to introduce the new format to all users.

Google Traffic Report Card-Does Your Website Pass? Part 1

Google

This is part 1 of a 7 part series that examines the 7 factors of incoming links that Google considers when choosing a spot for your website in it's SERP's.

Why incoming links? First because these are what Google places the maximum value on. But, all incoming links are NOT created identical. This 7 part course looks at the kinds of links Google values when "rating" your website in the SERP's. Each type of link discussed is significant to your on the whole link approach and accordingly your free traffic levels.

The first factor is of course the newscaster text used in your incoming links. The significance of the keywords used to link to your website are more important to Google than the content that is in point of fact on your page. You can generally use anchor link text with your keywords and not even have the keywords on the page and still get a good ranking in Google for that term if enough incoming links have that keyword pharse in them.

If you've heard of the phrase "Google Bombing" then you know what I'm talking about. Essentially it's when a set of webmasters or blog owners decide to get a page ranked for a certain term and all leave links back to the selected site with the keyword phrase that they want that page to rank for.

The "Google Bombing" was done by at most a few hundred links with this link text pointing to the page. Though more links would in all probability be necissary for a more competative term. Still, it goes to show how important link text is to the rankings of a page.

Google Bombing is nothing new. But what many people don't realize is that Google places more application on the anchor link text that it finds when it first discovers a link to your website. Each consequential link either adds value to that first consciousness or subtracts from it.

Many times you can control which link Google finds first just by knowing where Google goes recurrently and effectively placing your link in its path. This is called "baiting" the Google bot to visit your website through this link.

Each link you place after this preliminary link should supplementary show Google that their first thought was and still is correct. Each subsiquent link is a "vote" so to speak to corroborate Google's original thought of what your website is about.

Placing that first link to be found by Google is only the first step, but a very important one. Choose your anchor text keywords vigilantly. Each incoming link you place after this one should serve to make lawful this first impression.

Link Building | Build Reciprocal Links

How to build Reciprocal Links

One common link-building tip calls for trading links with companies offering information or products compatible or synergistic to your own. These should not be Web sites directly competitive with your own, but instead be complementary. Sounds simple enough, right? But, the question then arises: "Where do I start?"

For the well informed, there's a gold mine of strategic linking and partnering opportunities out there. You just have to know where to look. There are multiple ways you can locate companies who are well suited to send you targeted traffic while at the same time improving your link popularity and rankings:

http://www.seopositions.net/blog/link-building.jpg

1. Check Your Competitors Link

Take advantage of free services like Link Popularity Check to find all the sites that link to your competitors. Click the Details link to view the list. If your product or service is stronger than your competitor, then consider visiting some of these sites and approaching them in regard to linking to you as well, or as a replacement to your competitor depending on the situation. These sites have already demonstrated an interest in linking to Web sites similar to your own, so many will be ideal candidates.

2. Search Catalogs for complementary Sites

Major category-based engines like Yahoo!, Looksmart, and Open Directory divide their content into topics. You can often find a neatly organized list of sites that are complementary to your own by browsing these categories. Visit the sites you find and contact them in regard to adding a link to your site, or to specific content you offer.

3. Link Check complementary Sites

If you have strong competitors, or simply prefer to not go head to head with your competitors, link check complementary sites! A major site that is complementary, but not competitive to your own may offer an array of links that are also complementary. Find Websites that cater to the same audience you do, but do not sell the exact same things.

In addition, many engines such as Google calculate link reputation for all sites that link to you. Therefore, linking sites having a greater popularity or link reputation will affect your own link reputation to a much greater degree. Once you have a decent link reputation, you'll find it to be much easier to obtain top rankings when you go to optimize your content.

When you do request a link trade

* Be sure you have developed genuine content on your Web site of interest to the trading partner. Take the time to point out specific articles that would be of interest to THEIR visitors. Tell them they can host the article on their Web site if they'll simply credit you as the source and add a link to your site. Do all the work for them. E-mail them the page with a discrete credit at the bottom. Be sure the link to your site contains your important keywords to bolster your rankings on those keywords.

* Explain the advantages to the potential link partner and the advantages your site has to their visitors. They must clearly understand how linking to you benefits them.

* If you plan to link back to them as an enticement, consider telling them where the link will be placed, or set the link up in advance with the stipulation that you'll be glad to leave it there if they'll be kind enough to link back to you.

* Take the time to look over their site and then suggest where a link to you might be appropriate. Consider supplying example text to make this easy for them. Look for pages with relatively few outgoing links. Your link reputation, at least on Google, will be reduced in relation to the number of other links on the referring page.

* Most importantly, personalize your e-mails! You must distinguish yourself from all the spam most Web site owners are swamped with daily. If the link is particularly important to you, call them personally on the phone, write them a letter, or send a fax to show them you're serious.

Anytime you do achieve a link to your site, consider submitting the domain or the page the link resides on to ensure that the search engine sees it and updates your link popularity score. If the page with your link is never indexed, then your link popularity score will never improve. Of course, links also benefit you through increased traffic, so link popularity and improved rankings are not the only benefits you'll receive.

Improve Your Google Rankings in So Easy Step

Having a top rank in Google is the holy grail for anyone who has a website. Organic Google traffic is free advertising and how most bloggers (especially those just starting out) achieve visitors and traffic to their site. It all comes down to a simple numbers game. Essentially, more traffic = more money-making opportunities from your blog. The question is, how do you get ranked higher for my blog posts using Blogger?

Before I tell you how, let me give you a quick lesson is search engine optimization (aka SEO). There are two main components: “off-page” and “on-page” optimization. “Off-page” SEO refers to tactics such as link building. The more websites that point their links to your blog/website, the better. It’s a democratic way of showing Google that your site must be important if lots of people are pointing to it. Even more important with “off-page” inbound links is the actual link text (anchor text) that is used to point to your site.

Here’s my proof. If you search Google for the term “click here” you’ll see that Adobe Reader and Apple’s Quicktime software are in the top 3 results. Why? Because so many other sites are linking to these two sites with “click here” as the anchor text to download their software. That’s the power of “off-page” SEO which you as a blogger can’t do much about besides writing such great unique content that generates lots of links.

So with “on-page” SEO you have complete control over how well you’re optimized for Google. This includes keywords in your post titles, title tags, using header tags (h1, h2) and other tactics. Now the one we’re going to focus on in this article is the blog title tag.

Title tags are one of the most (if not the most) important “on-page” elements to ranking high in Google. Search engines such as Google weigh the importance of each word in the title from left to right. So ideally you want your blog post title all the way to the left and your actual blog name to the right. Below is a perfect example of how this should look.

Blogger templates by default don’t come with search engine optimized (SEO) title tags meaning you aren’t maximizing your blog to rank better in Google. If you take a look at your existing Blogger title you’ll see that blogger displays the blog name first then followed by your post title. They have it backwards so let’s get your blog setup properly.

We’re going to have to make a quick edit to your Blogger template which might intimidate some of you but it’s very small and painless. All I ask you to do first is to backup your template just in case you make a boo boo. That makes it easy to revert back without much headache.

Step #1

In your Blogger dashboard, go to “Layout” => “Edit HTML”.

Step #2

In the template code, do a search for this: <data:blog.pagetitle/>. It’s usually in the first 5-10 lines of code in your template near the top.

Step #3

Replace that bit of code with the following code:

<data:blog.title/>

<data:blog.pagename/> | <data:blog.title/>

Step #4

Save your template and go back to your blog. Click into any individual post and look at the page title.

All your blogger posts are now much better optimized to rank higher in Google. I’m not going to promise you a night and day difference but you’ve taken a step in the right direction. Now just go post unique high quality content so people searching Google will find your blog first!
